Some of Europe's big guns are in action tonight - Jose Mourinho's Inter are taking on minnows Anorthosis Famagusta, while twice winners Barcelona play Basle. Elsewhere PSV against Marseille looks tasty. I don't think we'll see goals again tonight but there should be plenty of decent fare on offer. Both Chelsea and Liverpool can take major strides towards the knockout stages with victory tonight - in truth I fancy at least three English sides to make the semi-finals again this term (possibly all four if they can avoid each other). Remember you can follow live minute-by-minute text commentary elsewhere on the site - simply click on the links at the top of this page. Mark Alford is watching the Londoners take on Roma, while Peter Carline will be describing Liverpool in Madrid Top of the evening folks - it's always nice to have you there sharing these European footballing nights with us. Manchester United and Arsenal certainly did their bit last night with impressive victories, and tonight the other members of 'The Big Four' (for me it will always be the Big Five of the 1980s but sometimes you've got to get with it) hope to follow suit. Chelsea will entertain Roma, while Liverpool are in Spain to face Atletico Madrid.
Liverpool have started brightly in Madrid and the Merseysiders go in front. Steven Gerrard threads a delightful pass through to Robbie Keane, who shows impressive composure to slot the ball home. Replays show a hint of offside - every wise judge knows that these things balance themselves out over nine long months. When Barcelona are playing like they are tonight it really is a joy - and perhaps it might be them more than any other team that can break the English stranglehold in this year's competition. Sublime stuff - and now all those cliches about a 'five star' performance will be fair game if it stays like this. Hernandez Xavi scores a fifth goal against beleaguered shell-shocked hosts.Rafa Benitez doesn't look the happiest of characters as the final whistle blows. I'm sure he will feel Liverpool should have won having controlled the majority of the match, but in truth they should beat the same opposition at Anfield in a fortnight and qualify for the knockout stages.: Thank you for your company tonight - a reminder that we will be following all the UEFA Cup action here on Thursday, and then our minute-by-minute service returns this weekend when the Premier League again takes centre stage. A very good evening
